VINCENT VAN GOGH (1853-1890) Artist
87 HACKFORD ROAD, LONDON SW9
I often think that the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day.
(Vincent Van Gogh)
Perhaps this quote from the Dutch born Post-Impressionist has more to do with his year lodging up the road from the bustling night life of Brixton rather than the more conventional view of the crazed Vincent sat in field daubing nightly at a canvas with his bandaged ear (or brush).
If this hypothesis is true I think it unlikely that Don McLean would have scored such a hit with the lyrics:-
Starry, starry night
The N3 bus to Bromley South
Could drop you off quote near your house
Just get off near the stop at Vassall Road
If it goes too far
Catch a cab outside the bar
Of the Brixton Roxy Cinema
Should only cost four quid as its quite near
