In the following year he played a mushroom in “An Autumn Idyll” at The Savoy Theatre. From these humble beginnings he went on to bigger and better things, writing over 40 plays and musicals, many of which he starred in, winning an honorary Academy Award, conquering Las Vegas in cabaret, receiving a Knighthood and becoming one the of the most quoted men of the twentieth century. He never appeared as a fungi or bivalve mollusc again.
