HERMAN MELVILLE (1819-1891) Author
25 CRAVEN STREET, LONDON WC2
To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme. No great and enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, though many there be that have tried it.
(Herman Melville)
Melville stayed in this house for two months in 1849, two years before writing his most famous novel Moby Dick, a book which never sold its first printing of 3000 in his lifetime. The book introduces us to Captain Ahab, Ishmael and most terrifyingly, to a mighty behemoth that overpowers all in its wake.
Captain Ahabs first mate was called Starbuck
