DESCRIPTION: SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE (1859-1930) Author 12 TENNISON ROAD, LONDON SE25 From 1891 to 1894 the creator of Sherlock Holmes lived in the London suburb of South Norwood where he wrote 21 Holmes stories. In his day the view was of middle class villas and rolling fields. Today the view is of folks on their way to Crystal Palace football ground and in the distance, the majestic sight of the twin towers of the Croydon branch of IKEA. The area was the backdrop for the Holmes mystery “The Adventure of the Norwood Builder”, soon to be updated as befits the area today as “Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Flat Pack Bookcase”
